MAUREEN SOLNIK Peacefully, on May 19, 2007 at the Riverview Health Centre, Maureen Solnik passed away. After her mother passed away, Maureen lived with Jim and Linda for the last four and a half years. She discovered that she enjoyed living in a busy household and grew very close to her roommates, Gisele and Georgette, and Jim and Linda's daughter, Kerri. Maureen found out that she loved to travel; enjoying her trips to Banff, Jasper, West Edmonton Mall, Niagara Falls, the lake with Jim and Linda and to Victoria with Linda and Carol. The highlight of her week was her time spent with her cousin, Judy. She always looked forward to their outings and time together and especially enjoyed her cooking. Maureen always anticipated Christmas in July with Judy's family and thought it was so great to have this celebration twice a year. She always looked forward to Tuesdays! Maureen was a girly girl who loved shopping, jewelry and having her nails done by her dear friend, Raz. She even wanted her polish reapplied the day before she passed away. Maureen was a shutterbug whose camera went with her everywhere. After her friend, Crystal, introduced her to scrapbooking, she was hooked and spent countless hours pasting and gluing her pictures and stickers in many scrapbooks. She also enjoyed puzzles, but her true passion became Special Olympics Bowling. She was so proud of her trophies and happy with the friendships formed at the Coronation Lanes. Sheila, Donna and the other coaches were helpful and caring. Maureen especially enjoyed her friendship with Sheila's granddaughter, Rachel, who spent time with her at the lanes. She also loved movies, especially the old classic movies. Maureen was under the care of Dr. Olweny for four years at the St. Boniface Hospital Oncology. It was a very sad day for her when he retired. A big thanks to Therese and all the nurses; they made the Chemo treatments more bearable with the compassion, kindness and dignity shown to her. She always felt that they truly cared for her and enjoyed their genuine interest in her. The fact that they always fussed over her nails and clothes, did not hurt either. Heartfelt gratitude is given to the Doctors and staff at 3E, Riverview Health Centre. Dr. Maureen Keenan, Jane, primary nurse, Dorothy and all involved in Maureen's care, were her angels. She felt loved and nurtured by the excellent care received there. She so appreciated the support of her dear friends, Gisele, Georgette, Kerri, Raz, Dianne, Moe, Carol and Caroline, during her stay at Riverview, as well as the support given to her by her Family Services workers, Wendy, Linda and Dona. During her four and a half years of treatments and hospital appointments, Maureen did not complain. She fought the good fight of faith, and her unwavering hope was in her Lord Jesus Christ. She received much encouragement and hope from attending Springs Church. The music, teachings and testimonies of God's love, often moved her to tears. Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Nick and Evelyn Solnik. She will be lovingly remembered by Linda and Jim Klause and their family, Eleanor Harik and family, Sally Boynowski, Al and family, Clifford Kaleski and Kathy and by Judy Stamler and Al and family. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2007 at Green Acres Funeral Home, Hwy. No. 1 E. at Navin Road with Ed Tetrault presiding. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Viewing will take place one half hour prior to the service. The pallbearers will be Al Stamler, Jim Klause, Ken Pydee, Allan Harik, Norman Stamler and Brian Harik. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Maureen's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3E 0V9.
